Another Link and More??

Dwayne at 11:53 pm on Friday, March 24, 2006

Still looking for ways to add a link to your website? Of course you are! Here is an interesting idea. Write reviews. When selecting a new book from Amazon I frequently check the reviews to see what other people thought of it before I buy. It dawned on me that this might be another way to build some name recognition for my site and perhaps get a high PR link out of it. Read on …

The Tree That Grew Too Fast

Jonathan at 11:03 pm on Wednesday, March 22, 2006

The growth of websitesToday we’ll be looking at the dangers of having a website grow too fast and the solutions to those problems if they do arise. Just like a tree a website starts out as a seed, an idea. It doesn’t matter what the site is about, it probably started out as a one page website and slowly began to grow.

Some webmasters never intend to have their site become large, because it’s a personal site or something along those lines. However, there are many webmasters who begin sites with ideas that become very popular (e.g. digg.com). Sometimes they are unaware of how popular these sites can be or begin doing things that weaken the website by branching into too many areas.

Google Sued for Lowering a Site in their SERPs.

Dwayne at 5:12 am on Tuesday, March 21, 2006

It was bound to happen, a large website, unhappy with the way they were penalized by Google has taken the matter to court. Parental advice site KinderStart has sued Google charging “it unfairly deprived the company of customers by downgrading its search-result ranking without reason or warning”.

Dio at 11:34 pm on Monday, March 20, 2006

Bit of a heads up to the webmasters running PHPBBs. This has been well Dugg, but if you haven’t seen it yet then now’s a good time to take a look at some of your latest sign-ups. Robot members of forums are no new thing, but many believe the groundwork is being laid for massive exploit on PHPBB.

Keep an eye out for a new member called FuntKlakow and be sure you’re signed up to PHPBB’s mailing list so as you can get updates as to when you need to take security measures.

Is There Life On Mars?

Dio at 10:07 pm on Monday, March 13, 2006

Google Mars - A mapping service with a difference!Who knows about Martian life, but Google has turned up another surprise today with the launch of prehaps its most useless release since the l33t version of their search engine.

After a busy few days of people rushing to the site to look for the face, canals and lost space probes, the site will be pretty much defunct for your average punter. Ok, maybe intrepid NASA hopefuls could use it to navigate from the polar cap to the Mariner Canyon, but other than novelty value, it seems a pointless exercise.

Google in 20 Years

Emil at 2:41 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2006

I found this funny image on Digg.com…

Googler in 20 Years

I just thought the image was hilarious, but it got me thinking about what Google would really be like in 10 or 20 years. One thing I believe that is inevitable in Google’s future is diversification, which is already evident in some of their ventures, like the VW navigation system, but I think Google will always stay with their main product, information.

Webmaster power, use your power wisely.

Dwayne at 2:30 am on Thursday, March 9, 2006

Ah, the life of a Website designer.

As I sit here in my cottage overlooking the beach (owned by my client), I can’t help but think, “This isn’t such a bad job after all”. You see, one of my clients is the owner of Hale Makai Cottages in Kauai, Hawaii (halemakaicottages.com). When it came time to redo their website they gave me a call and reasonably how can you write about something you’ve never seen, Right?

Latest Thread RSS Plug-in for WP

Emil at 12:45 am on Tuesday, March 7, 2006

With the attachment of our new forums, I was thinking about how to integrate the forum with the blog in the best way possible. What I came up with was to add a RSS display of the latest threads in the sidebar to involve the readers in the latest discussions. I thought I would only be appropriate to share this easy but useful plug in.

Manage RSS

To get the plug-in go here and follow the easy installation instructions, then let your imagination do the rest. There are many options you can control to get the feeds to display the way you want.
