Great news! Google loves us and our wonderful blogging team so much that its added ThirdSquare to its latest round of purchases from the world of the web! Unfortunately this means this will be the last entry on the blog as we’re all off to our own island in the Bahamas.

It was a great date for Google to announce this news, as there have been a range of major announcements today. We’ll start with Google’s latest project, that I new a certain few online friends will no doubt benefit from - Google Romance. Long overdue, we’ll all agree!

We’ve also had the first look at Google’s eagerly anticipated browser, and doesn’t it look slick and impressive! AdSense fans will also be excited at the new ad formats being announced. And finally, there’s the innovative new mapping service, Google Rooms.

Exciting new Google developments aside, there’s one piece of news that has emerged today that will have web fans concerned. China has bought Google - and given their recent record on human rights and freedom of speech, this doesn’t bode well for the future.

Google has always used this special day to make big announcements about exciting new product launches, here are some of my favourites from the past. Who can forget the excitement Google Gulp created, or the buzz caused when Google revealed how their rankings were so successful? There was also the launch of Google Lunar Jobs which many of us signed up for in anticipation of a brave new web venture that was literally out of this world.

And finally, April the 1st will remain the day I remember that Google launched their famous Gmail service. Oh how I spent the day sniggering at my work mates and telling them to stop being so foolish and look at the date it was announced on. Oh.
