Memories of the past “Brought to you by Google Video”

Are you one of those people that just can’t get enough of commercials? Well, Google video has the ticket for you. You can now pay to watch your favorite commercial over and over. No this isn’t the cool commercials that we rushed to our computers to view online after the superbowl, these are “Vintage” commercials.

This pretty well shows there is a market for anything. For a mere $.99 you can relive your childhood and once again watch Farrah Fawcett show you her pearly whites in an Ultra Bright commercial. Not convinced? Remember the “Quicker Picker Upper”, yes it’s true Nancy Walker is back to extol the Google Video vintage commercialsvirtues of Bounty paper towels. Not hooked yet? Lets take a step back and let Roy Rogers apply his acting talent on a Bakers instant chocolate commercial all for the small price of $.99. If once isn’t enough buy the “Day-Pass” for only 1 dollar more. Invite your friends over, get out the popcorn, spend the whole day watching the Bonanza cast trading in their horses for Chevys.

Just think, those commercials you grumble about while they interrupt you favorite program may be the “Vintage Commercial” of the future.

Next time a client comes up with some silly idea about how he’s going to get rich on the Internet don’t laugh. As Google is doing so well to show us, where there is a niche product there is someone willing to pay for it.

There’s an irony that you post this now. The action movie, “Demolition Man”, ran on TBS on Saturday night. The people of utopian 2032 were singing along to golden oldies like “I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weiner” and “Pop-pop Fizz Fizz.” If people are willing to pay to see ads today, then it follows that in a generation, we’ll fondly remember them as songs from our past.
