Ah, the life of a Website designer.
As I sit here in my cottage overlooking the beach (owned by my client), I can’t help but think, “This isn’t such a bad job after all”. You see, one of my clients is the owner of Hale Makai Cottages in Kauai, Hawaii (halemakaicottages.com). When it came time to redo their website they gave me a call and reasonably how can you write about something you’ve never seen, Right?
So here I sit in some of the nicest accommodations in Kauai, all paid for by the client. Tough work, I take some pictures, write some notes, do a little promotion while I’m here. The client gets a much better job because the site content is written by some one who now knows what he is writing about from first hand experience, and my family and I get an almost free vacation at some top rate cottages on the beach, everyone’s happy.
There’s been some interesting side affects to this. Part of the new site will be devoted on things to do in Hawaii. Obviously this takes some research. In researching businesses we might want to add to the website, we’ve found it’s a good idea to let the owner know what you have in mind, I have received a number of generous offers from people that would like to have their website featured on a well established, relatively high traffic website. Once again everyone is happy, after all I do have a budget and a discount increases the chance I will use and recommend their business. One word of caution here though, is to make sure the business is something you would want to recommend before talking to the owner.
Well time to get back to “Work”, there’s a snorkeling excursion my family wants to help me “evaluate for a review” today. Meanwhile don’t hurt yourself running to your client file cabinet as you look for clients that might be interested in a little “research” trip.
